I Love Buffy

So, I'm working on quite a few vids lately. (sometimes not a good thing when it comes to getting anything finished lol)

But there has been a lot of discussion lately about Buffy's depression in season six.

Buffy in season six is MY HERO. Because, like her, I've dealt with depression and/or depressing times in my life. I don't like admitting it publicly, and that's something I can relate to Buffy with. Because she has shame. Shame of what she's feeling or can't feel or what she's supposed to feel.

It isn't something I talk to a lot of people about. But it's been discussed in my f-list a lot, and just knowing there are people out there who have the courage to discuss not only the matter of depression but share personally about it as well makes me hopeful.

And I love the portrayal of it in Buffy. She comes through eventually, she still fights the good fight, she still loves her sister and her friends and she makes mistakes, god knows we all do, but it makes me love her so much more.

I heard this song not too long ago and thought it was the perfect tone for everything Buffy endured in season six.
The song is edited and the video itself is quite short but I hope you enjoy.

Vidders Note: In the making of this vid I found quite a few parallels in the direction of shots filmed at the beginning and end of this season. Buffy enters the World lost and confused and comes out hopeful. You'll see what I'm talking about at the end of the video.

SOoooo. I was awake when you texted me. In fact I didn't fall asleep until 8am. But I was laying in bed, and I knew I had to try to sleep in order to be at all coherent for work. So yeah.

Oh my gosh. This is fantastic. I actually gasped at the scene of Buffy grasping the ghost/demon in Afterlife, and it evaporating in her hand. Gah! That's such a potent image and I would never have noticed it if not for this vid.

And the whole thing is just lovely. My throat is now all closed up from wanting to cry. Dammit. You capture the mood perfectly, down to that tentative optimism at the end of the season. Beautiful.

Btw, I've watched it 3 times already.

And--as a sidenote--I can't tell you how giddy it makes me to look at my friends list, and see the title "I Love Buffy." It does my heart good. ♥

Yeah, I feel the same way. But what I noticed was "St. Theresa of Avila in Ecstasy" vs. Winged!Buffy. Stunning visual and unexpected connection. Absolutely love it.

I WAS HOPING SOMEONE WOULD NOTICE THAT!

Like I've mentioned in other comments, the filming and connectivity of this season with all Buffy's going through is so subtle yet poignant.

Another image I had wanted to include (but didn't cause of the quality of the clip I had) was the very beginning of OMWF. Buffy is sitting in the magic box drawing and at first glance it just looks like this lead covered page, but then you notice this box of light she's left unfilled with pencil and it looks like this darkness is overwhelming this little light space. And it's so meaningful! She's been brought from the light back into darkness and it's suffocating her.

I may be just finding meaning where there's actually nothing significant, but it feels significant to me :)

In the making of this video I found SO SO many significant yet subtle images relating to everything Buffy was going through. The filming of this season was absolutely stunning and meaningful.

Lovely. You picked so many shots of an unhappy Buffy fighting and 'going through the motions' and coming through and I liked the soft sound of the music and the blending.

Anne, this shattered me. I'm crying here after watching it four times again and again. The clips you chose were so resonant, like Blackfrancine said the one where she tries to grasp the ghost, and the one that destroyed me on the fourth time through was when she glanced up at Giles while he was hugging her and she looked so hopeful. It just breaks me. How she feels so alone, so lost, so tired, then to see her FIGHT back. And Dawnie, oh Dawnie.

THANK YOU! I love vidding so I doubt I'll ever stop but this is one thing about vidding the same fandom that makes me nervous. The thought that eventually everything I make will be just be a copy of something I or someone else has already done.

Tears were def shed in the making of this video. That look she gives her friends after killing the demon in 'Normal Again' that looks that says 'I messed up and I'm SO sorry, I don't deserve forgiveness' just breaks my heart! She is SO just asking for understanding there and they just don't and OMG my heart!

I'm crying in the middle of the student lounge right now, and people are staring. This is an amazing, stunning vid, and an important statement about Buffy and season 6. When this is the journey we're shown in season 6, I don't know how people can hate it or Buffy. It is beyond me, and you illustrate that journey so well in this vid. The clips and scenes you put to the beat of the music are movements in themselves, and like Emmie said, they're resonant with meaning because of the emotion you give them.

2011 is off to an amazing start.

If anything it makes her MORE relatable. No one can be the hero all the time. No one. She's not only REAL this season but she's just laid bare and no one see's it. This woman breaks my heart and then turns around and picks up the pieces.

Buffy haters better recognize.

I was a little worried about the song choice. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the tone, but the full version is about a breakup. And I was hoping I could change it enough to make it significant for Buffy this season.

And I completely agree with what Emmie said, that you keep posting such beautiful resonant meaningful videos and they all manage to have a different feel and theme.
